What Does PDA Stand For?

What does PDA stand for? Easy, PDA is the abbreviation for personal digital assistant. In other words, when someone says they need to look at their PDA, they are referring to the modern day equivalent of a planner, combined with a Gameboy, combined with a cell phone, combined with a computer, and a multitude of other devices. And, all this power comes in single handheld unit that may be only slightly bigger than a cell phone.

While no two PDA's may come with the same features, what is interesting is the variety of accessories and programs you can find to work with your pocket PC. Once, PDA's were used primarily as an electronic replacement for everything a businessman might include in his planner. Instead of writing his appointments and contact in a bulky book, he could now key them into an electronic device that will slip into his jacket pocket.

And, as businessmen found the devices more and more indispensable, the uses of the PDA became more diversified. Now, PDA's come with the features most wanted by students, housewives, engineers, and pretty much anyone who is computer friendly. Programmers designed software for PDA's that will automate shopping lists, word processing, global positioning, gaming, and even scanning and recording medical information for nurses.

When purchasing a PDA, look for one with a fast processor and a lot of memory. While you may not think you need a lot of power now, the more you use your PDA, the more reliant you are apt to become on it. Buying more speed and memory now will save you from needing to upgrade as you find more and more PDA accessories to add to your unit.
